Applications of Spray Foam Insulation
We apply spray foam insulation throughout residential and commercial buildings to create comprehensive thermal barriers. Our installation covers critical areas where air leakage and energy loss typically occur.
Attics and Roofs
We install spray foam insulation directly on the underside of roof decking to create an unvented attic system. This approach moves the thermal boundary from the attic floor to the roofline.
Open-cell foam works well for attic applications where moisture permeability is needed. We typically apply 6-10 inches for proper R-value coverage.
Closed-cell foam provides superior air sealing and structural reinforcement. We use this type when moisture control is critical or when space is limited.
Our roof applications eliminate ice dam formation by maintaining consistent temperatures. We seal around penetrations like vents, chimneys, and electrical fixtures.
The spray foam adheres to irregular surfaces and fills gaps that traditional insulation cannot reach. We ensure complete coverage around rafters and complex roof geometries.
Basements and Crawl Spaces
We apply spray foam to basement walls and crawl space areas to prevent moisture infiltration and air leakage. These below-grade applications require specific moisture management strategies. For basement walls, we install closed-cell foam directly against concrete or masonry surfaces. This creates a vapor barrier and insulation layer in one application.
Rim joist sealing is a critical component of basement insulation. We thoroughly seal this area where significant air leakage occurs.
In crawl spaces, we apply foam to foundation walls rather than between floor joists. This creates a conditioned crawl space that prevents moisture problems.
We address potential termite inspection zones by leaving required visibility strips where building codes mandate access. Our installation maintains compliance with local regulations.
Walls and Ceilings
We inject spray foam into wall cavities during new construction or renovation projects. The foam expands to fill irregular spaces and creates continuous insulation coverage.
Retrofit applications involve drilling small holes in existing walls to inject foam. We seal the holes after completing the installation process.
For ceiling applications, we spray foam against the roof deck or between ceiling joists depending on the building design. This prevents air movement through the ceiling assembly. We carefully control foam expansion to avoid damaging drywall or structural elements. Our experienced technicians adjust application techniques based on cavity size and ambient conditions.
The foam seals around electrical outlets, plumbing penetrations, and other interruptions in the wall assembly. This comprehensive sealing eliminates thermal bridging.
Garages and Sheds
We insulate garage spaces to improve comfort in attached garages and protect stored items from temperature fluctuations. Our foam application creates thermal separation between conditioned and unconditioned spaces.
Shared walls between garages and living spaces receive priority treatment. We seal these areas to prevent air transfer and maintain indoor air quality.
For detached garages and sheds, we focus on walls and ceiling areas where temperature control matters. Workshop spaces benefit from consistent temperatures year-round.
We address garage door areas with careful sealing around tracks and opener mechanisms. The foam provides insulation while maintaining operational clearances. Metal building applications require specialized techniques to prevent condensation issues. We select appropriate foam types based on the specific building design and usage requirements.

Spray Foam versus Other Types of Insulation
Although spray foam insulation is highly effective and the best for all buildings, it may not be ideal for every home based on your budget. However, homes who have occupants with severe asthma or are very sensitive to air pollutants may not find other options like fiberglass ideal for their homes as it may trigger additional respiratory problems for these occupants. For comprehensive information on all insulation types and their applications, the Department of Energy provides detailed guidance.
In this case, if you have family members living with these conditions, using spray foam can facilitate cleaner indoor air.
Apart from spray foam, the most common types of insulation include:

Apart from spray foam, the most common types of insulation include:
- Fiberglass
- Cellulose/Blown-in
- Mineral Wool
- Polystyrene
- Foam Board
Fiberglass Insulation vs. Spray Foam |
Cellulose Insulation vs. Spray Foam |
|
Fiberglass insulation is not the safest form of home insulation. Unlike spray foam insulation, fiberglass is made by weaving fine glass strands effectively into an insulation material and so can reduce heat transfer. It is a non-flammable material and the cheap way to go if you are in need of insulation. Fiberglass is the most common insulation used today.
Polystyrene (Foam Board)Polystyrene is also a common home insulation material and waterproof thermoplastic foam which keeps sound and temperature in check in your home. It is of two types, Extruded (XEPS), also called Styrofoam, and expanded (EPS). Both types have different cost and performance ratings. Polystyrene insulation comes with a smooth surface, which cannot be found in any other insulation process.
Installing polystyrene insulation involves cutting the foam into blocks to make it appropriate to fit into the walls. Unfortunately, polystyrene is flammable and may catch fire unless coated in a fireproofing chemical known as Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). |
On the other hand, cellulose insulation is the use of recycled paper, cardboard and any other similar material in loose form as an insulation material. Although cellulose insulation is eco-friendly, cheap and more fire resistant than fiberglass, it has its downsides. Cellulose is subject to compaction and loss of R-value over time, in addition to trapping airborne allergens.
Mineral WoolAnother home insulation method is the use of mineral wool. Mineral wool refers to various types of insulation, which may include glass wool (fiberglass made from recycled glass), rock wool (insulation material manufactured from basalt) and slag wool (produced steel mills slag).
Mineral wool can come as a loose material or in batts. They do not possess additives, which make it fire resistant, thereby making it inappropriate for extreme heat situations in your home. It is not combustible. Mineral wool can only be effective for large areas of insulation if it is combined with other forms of fire-resistant insulation. |
